Instructions for authors

Texts are published in Czech, Slovak, Polish and in other world languages. The editorial office only accepts original works resulting from research or documentation. The editorial office only accepts contributions that have not yet been published in any printed or electronic form. No other publications are permitted in the course of the review proceeding. Non-original works are rejected by the editors without any review proceeding. Also tests sent by the author to more professional journals at the same time may be rejected.

Statement of the editors of the Národopisný věstník (Ethnographic Journal) about compliance with ethical principles of publishing

The Czech Ethnological Society in the role of published of the professional periodical Národopisný věstník [Ethnographic Journal] requires from authors wising their contributions to be published in the journal compliance with basic ethical principles related to the publication. The editorial office only accepts original texts resulting from research or documentation. The office only accepts contributions not yet published in printed or electronic format. Publication elsewhere should not even be scheduled for the review period of our journal. Non-original contributions will be rejected by the editorial office without review. Texts sent by their authors for review to more periodicals at the same time may be rejected too.

Editorial board

The editorial office is authorised by the executive management of the Czech Ethnological Society to form the professional profile of the Etnographic Journal. The editors approve the contents of the individual numbers of the journal, selection of topics for mono-thematic issues and recommend the circuit of potential authors of contributions to be published in the Journal. The editorial office of the Etnographic Journal assesses professional standards of the research works accepted for publication, and recommends and approves selection of reviewers for the individual studies to be published. After production of two independent reviews the editorial office is informed about the results of the review proceeding and defines further progress of negotiation with the author (acceptance of the contribution for publication – acceptance with recommendations for changes – rejection of the contribution).

About the Journal

The peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the top professional institution of Czech ethnology, the Czech Ethnological Society, focuses on studies of traditional folk culture of the Central European region, current cultural forms developing from folklore traditions and topics in the field of historical ethnology. The Ethnographic Journal (in the original called Národopisný věstník) is the second oldest professional journal of Czech ethnology.

Národopisný věstník/Ethnographic Journal is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

The Ethnographical Journal is inscribed in the following international bibliographical databases: SCOPUS, ERIH PLUS (European Reference Index for the Humanities), EBSCO, AIO (The Anthropological Index Online of the Royal – Anthropological Institute) and CEJSH (Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities).

Národopisný věstník

1992 - do současnosti

Recenzovaný odborný časopis vydávaný od roku 1992, svoji koncepcí se však hlásí k starším časopiseckým titulům vydávaným Společností. Díky této tradici jej můžeme považovat za druhý nejdéle vydávaný etnologický časopis v České republice. Je evidován na národním Seznamu recenzovaných neimpaktovaných časopisů. Od roku 2008 vychází dvě čísla ročně. Na redakci jednotlivých ročníků se doposud podíleli J. Kandert, J. Veselská, M. Válka, D. Drápala.

Národopisný věstník českoslovanský

1906–1956

V roce 1906 nahradil starší Národopisný sborník českoslovanský. V letech 1914–1924, kdy nevycházel Český lid, byl jediným centrálním oborovým periodikem v Československu. Kontinuální vydávání časopisu přerušily ve 30. letech hospodářské potíže, posléze II. světová válka. Poválečná revitalizace časopisu byla direktivně ukončena v roce 1956. Mezi lety 1906–1956 byli redaktory Národopisného věstníku českoslovanského postupně Jiří Polívka, Jiří Horák, Karel Chotek a Drahomíra Stránská.
